Granted, it's far from being Disney's best work to date and it doesn't have the same ~magical~ feel we get from, say, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid, but it got me laughing pretty hard.

Well, I'm a cheesy kid at heart. |DDD I really like all the ~love at first sight~ and ~prince charmings~ and ~happily ever after~ and all that fairytale stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised when I did watch the Emperor's New Groove, though! From the trailers alone, I knew it wasn't one of the ~magical Disney~ movies, so I didn't bother with watching it until a couple of years ago. I LOL'ed so hard through the whole thing I just couldn't *not* like it. XD

I know, I know, I'm the only person in the universe who didn't like that movie. :P It's not about comparing it to other Disney movies, though. It's just not my kind of humour.

... I don't even remember why I didn't like Pocahontas. I still love the songs, but I remember the movie disappointed me a lot.

I think there are lots of other people who didn't like it, actually-- there's a reason why it wasn't a huge box office success, after all. But I do think it's pretty lulzy.

Well, I'm pretty used to Disney's historical inaccuracy, so that didn't bother me. And I liked that the main couple didn't end up together for once. I mean, I cried my eyes out, but it was a nice change.

How much do you remember of it?

It's pretty much impossible to find over here. Disney practically denies its existence. I didn't even hear about it until high school, when it was brought up in African-American lit. As an example of how not to write/adapt African-American folktales. The teacher also showed us a segment of the original Uncle Remus tales, and challenged us to figure out what the dialogue was supposed to be, after pointing out that the accent didn't match any known dialect.

Even if I have to boggle at you a bit for The Emperor's New Groove, your shout-outs to Chicken Run and The Iron Giant tell me you have good taste. :D I watched Iron Giant when it was rerun on TV, and because I couldn't remember it ever being in theaters I assumed that it was some direct-to-video knockoff - and then by the end of the movie I was crying. It was one of the more pleasant surprises in my movie-watching life.
