The Great TFA Rewatch

Technically, I have a Very Organized List of things I should be watching. But I couldn't resist. So, the pilot!

(For the record: these posts will be full of ramblings about the show as a whole, so if you haven't seen it and still care about spoilers, read under your own risk.)

I think I've mentioned before that TFA is still my favourite of the Transformers continuities I've watched. I have such a ridiculous amount of love for this show, and it keeps growing every time I rewatch. Even if they should've got a fourth season and they had to change/rush stuff, now it's really obvious from the pilot that they had the whole thing planned out.

And sure, the pilot might seem kind of generic compared to the rest of the series, but you know what? It has some of the best establishing character moments I've ever seen. In a little over ten minutes, they introduce twelve different characters and they do it really, really well. Also, in retrospect, the character development some of these guys get is wonderful. Optimus is such an insecure rookie, and Ratchet hates the universe (and the history vids, of course he hates the history vids, I love this show), and Prowl... ahahaha Prowl is such a jerk. His character development is one of my favourite things about TFA in general.

Anyway, not much to say about just the first three eps, so have some random stuff:

→ Sumdac is a really, really fascinating character and he needs more love, dammit. Why doesn't fandom cater to my needs. =( Also, I had forgotten that they were working on techno-organic stuff when we first see Sari. I wonder if it was just foreshadowing or if they had more stuff planned that we didn't get to see...

→ Everyone is hilarious in this show. Everyone. But I have to point out how much I love Starscream and his non-existant sense of timing. WHY OF COURSE I CAN FIT A TEN MINUTE SPEECH HERE, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG~

→ The fact that Optimus doesn't make it past the pilot without dying will never stop being hilarious.

→ Not hilarious: Prowl's lines about it. "He went saving the All Spark. That's what matters." OH DAMMIT SHOW you had it all planned out.

→ CLASH OF THE TITANS! This show is the geekiest. I mean, this came out three years before the remake, so...

→ I still think this one should be called Transformers: Friendship is Magic.

Transformers: Friendship is Magic.

"Dear Ultra Magnus..."

Yes, indeed ;_; /sobs

I just love everyone in this show. ;3; And you're right about the establishing moments. Even in his cameo it was clear Sentinel is a jerk and he knew Optimus, for example.

Yes, there's also that. XD

Everything is amazing *-*

LMFAO YES!!!

G1 will always hold my heart if I had to pick just /one/ continuity...but I really do adore TFA too. <3 Looking forward to most posts on this! 8D

It's all about the teamwork! =P

I love G1 with all of my nostalgic heart, but TFA just hits the right tone for me. It's got a great balance between serious themes and character development on one side, and just plain unrepentant geekyness on the other.

Absolutely! I LOVE TFA for the depth and cohesiveness and everything too. I was just never able to connect with the TFA characters quite /as/ deeply as I did/have many of the G1 crew. But yeah, as far as quality and development and everything, TFA is AWESOME for "doin' it rite". XD Also, I meant to comment . . . agreed! NOT ENOUGH LOVE FOR SUMDAC! Isaac's such a neat character, he really is. And even the whole Mary-Sue vibe of Sari turning out to be a techno-organic . . . I couldn't get upset about that because the show had spent so long setting up for it. They'd planned it all along, and did a beautiful job of it, I thought. So many little clues and unanswered questions that by the time they /did/ reveal that...it was the only answer that made /sense/. =3

Another character I really love is Fanzone. I even played him at Wake for a few months. He's SO much fun. <333 I love the rapport he winds up developing with Prowl, and /very/ late in the series, with Ratchet. And LOL even before that, how he's one of the few who can snark and growl back at Ratchet and the old bot actually /listens/ . . . because they're both old and tired and all. XD

Yes! I think a big part of the Sue-vibes come from having it so rushed, too. If there had been more time to set it up/explain stuff it probably wouldn't have jarred so much. Still, I love Sari and her relationship with her dad so much that I can live with the sudden powers.

Ooooh Fanzone is amazing! I love him and his dynamics with the 'bots so much.

The upgrade and everything after that was pretty rushed, yeah. Everything leading up to her skinning her elbow only for it not /bleed/ and all that was wonderfully slow. XD But yeah, Sari herself is a fun character. <3

Fanzone is made of AWESOME AND WIN! XD I think one of my very favorite episodes is the one on the island with Meltdown, where Sari had been kidnapped, Bulkhead was down for the count for most of the show, and Prowl and Fanzone had to work together just the two of them. XD Prowl learned that the human was okay, Fanzone learned that the big robot was okay . . . and for as crazy as things got for Fanzone...he bucked up and /kept/ up pretty damned well! XD

He kept up indeed. It's great to see him getting more and more used to stuff up to the point of actually kicking ass on Cybrertron.

SO MUCH YES!!! That was an /awesome/ episode! XDDD

Yay for rewatch! Always follow your heart, Laulau

I still think this one should be called Transformers: Friendship is Magic.

omg yeeeeeees XDD

I will be forever sad-ish that we didn't get to see more about Sari and what was up with her and everything :'( And Sumdac *does* deserve more love in general, really.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2012-06-30 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Always!

I still say that Optimus and Twilight have a very similar character arc. XD COME ON YOUNG STUCK-UP NERD, MAKE FRIENDS.

It's... really not surprising at all how much I love Sumdac |D
