Transformers RotF squee
Short version: I LOVED IT. ♥ Yes it was silly, yes it has flaws, I could definitely live without some of the, uh, 'humour', but it was exactly what I expected. So there. :P
Long version, with spoilers and capslocks but without much coherency:
- I know it's more about nostalgia factor than about, you know, actual characterization in the movie, but I LOVE ALL THESE GUYS SO MUCH. ♥
- Bumblebee is too adorable for words and I want to bring him home. *__* I'm not sure why he couldn't talk again, but I'm willing to handwave it as Rule of Funny. And seriously people, how does a giant space robot manage to be so cute?
- I know there's plenty of people who hate the human characters just because they're human but, really, I do like them all. Especially John Turturro. He just cracks me up. XD And I really liked the Autobot-human cooperation thing a lot.
-- I have to say, though, that it is a bit weird to get actual human deaths when the overall plot is as G1-ish as "HEY WHAT IF WE BLOW UP THE SUN". It's weird in general when it pretends to be a Serious Movie, really, so I tend to focus firmly on the silly.
- I'm glad I've been watching the G1 cartoon, because I could squee even at the random names without personality that got thrown around. Like Sideswipe! He got, what, one line? Poor guy. XD
- Someone I didn't expect to squee about, but ended up fangirling a lot: Soundwave. And Ravage too, of course. But, seriously, SOUNDWAVE. HOW EPIC WAS SOUNDWAVE IN THIS MOVIE. And as usual, he's the only 'Con that's remotely competent at his job even if he's not out there exploding stuff. BUT SERIOUSLY PEOPLE EPIC SOUNDWAVE WAS EPIC.
- "STARSCREAM, I'M HOOOOME!" XDDDD I DIED. Probably my favourite line in the whole movie, honest. We finally got movie 'Cons with actual personalities! G1-ish Megatron + Starscream antics, yesssss. Unlike most of the fandom, I don't ship them, but oh do they crack me up when they're being themselves like that.
- Speaking of Starscream. You suck-up, cowardly, whiny loser. NEVER CHANGE. ♥ I love that his best idea in the whole movie is "uhhh boss maybe we should RUN AWAY".
- Another good reason to have watched G1: "Hey, that's a Constructicon!" "Wait, that's a lot of Constructicons." "Ooooh does this mean they'll--" "OMG DEVASTATOOOOR =DDDD" My brain, it is a special place. I don't even like Devastator all that much and I still squeed.
- Funny story: A couple of days ago, we watched Night at the Museum 2. When it was over, I told my sister, "There's too much Transformers in my life. When I saw the pilots coming to life, I realized I'd been expecting the planes to wake up." So, when they went to look for Jetfire at the Smithsonian? I FELT A LOOOT BETTER ABOUT MYSELF FOR THINKING THAT. =D
-- Also: I liked Jetfire. I don't care if he Shouldn't Be Like That or anything. Different continuities, people, learn to enjoy them.
- And now, the squee you had all been waiting for: OPTIMUUUUUS ♥♥♥ OPTIMUS, HOW CAN YOU BE SO AWESOME. *________* He got killed, he got revived, this is officially Transformers now. XD Poor guy. Actually, while I was 100% sure he'd die, I didn't expect him to revive until the next movie so at first it surprised me when the plot moved in that direction. I guess "Optimus dies and revives" is such a big part of the mythos that they even bother with the "cliffhanger".
But seriously. I love that character so much. Maybe a liiiittle bit less than his G1 version, because G1!Optimus owns my heart, but... I still love him lots and lots and lots. For a great and terrible warrior, he's just so adorable. ♥♥♥
- And of course, the best thing about the movie: "HEY GUYS LET'S GO TO PETRA TO FIND THE HOLY GRAIL!" Oh, Spielberg. |D
