Fanfic meme, day 3

Day 3: What character archetypes do you enjoy (or hate) writing?

There are several, and they often overlap:

Good Guys. Not those "Nice Guys" in the XKCD sense, I mean those characters who are genuinely Good and always try their best to do the right thing. They're not necessarily big heroes; but they're good people.

Nerds of all shapes and forms. This one is, perhaps, the most obvious. :P I have lots of these in every fandom.

Wise Old Mentors, sometimes before they were wise or old.

Stupid Wizards, who may or may not be Wise Old Mentors, but are nearly always Nerds.

Characters With Tons Of Ego. Again, a lot Stupid Wizards go here. But it works for a lot of non-wizard characters too. This could mean either characters with tons of ego with good reason, like Clow or the Doctor, and also the Starscreams of the world who have no sense of reality whatsoever.

TL;DR Characters. Either because they're nerdy, over-the-top, dramatic, or wizards all of the above. HI, OURAN PEOPLE, I'M LOOKING AT YOU.

Hopeful/Optimistic Characters. The kind that continue trying to see the bright side and do the right thing, no matter what the universe throws at them. Which doesn't mean they're shallow or naive or anything like that. If you call Aang/Klavier/Skyfire/Waka/etc "shallow", we are going to pick a fight. Just so you know.

Gentle Giants and all related sub-tropes. Because I'm a softy. Again, too many to count in all my fandoms.

Artificial Beings With Real Feelings. Transformers don't count here because they're a whole species that's supposed to be sentient; I mean people like Data, or Clow's creations, or Uzura, or the robots from WALL-E.

Villains Who Fail A Lot. I blame this one entirely on Transformers! I never cared for writing villains until I discovered the GLORY of ridiculous Decepticon antics. (I don't have problems with reading fics about their more serious/competent side, but if I'm going to write about them? Give me the "acting like angry five-year-olds" thing any day.)

Adventurers/Explorers, who usually tend to be nerds, too.

Evil/Ambiguous Characters Turned Good Because They Made The Effort. HI, DUMBLEDORE. ♥ HI, ZUKO. HI, HALF OF THE FMA CAST. I LOVE YOU.

And for character dynamics:

Big Happy Families. This one is, I think, another of my most obvious pings. Especially when it overlaps with the whole Artificial Beings stuff.

Odd Friendships, which often go hand-in-hand with he Big Happy Family thing.

Ridiculously Smart And/Or Over-Powered Characters As Equals, either as pairings or friends: Clow/Yuuko and Doctor/Romana go here, for example. But also my crossovers about Clow and Dumbledore, or Clow and Yuuko and the Doctor, being BFFs.

OTPs That Go On Epic Adventures. Even if I usually end up writing vignettes and not the Epic Adventures themselves. :P But I never cared about the whole "love = domestic" thing. You can be in love and still have fun adventuring times!
