Clow put down his quill with a contented sigh. Although the many rests from their work were becoming longer and longer, while the time they spent making plans for the new creatures seemed to vanish, they were advancing quite fast. They had just come up with a solution for something that had been bothering them for the last few days, in fact, and Yuuko decided that it deserved celebration.

“You know,” she said, as she poured some sake for both of them, “you never told me how did you learn so much about traveling through different worlds.”

“I didn't know you were interested,” he replied, raising an eyebrow. She usually hated it when he talked (too much, she claimed) about his own abilities. Yuuko shrugged.

“I'm curious. Not to be smug or anything,” she added, with a smile that contradicted her words, “but it's not exactly common.”

“Indeed. And a natural talent such as yours is even rarer,” he admitted, with a slight bow in her direction. “I had to learn the hard way.”

“Really?” she asked, obviously enjoying herself, since she didn't even try to hide her smirk. “You mean you had to learn something like normal people? With small steps first, and trial and error, and everything?”

“Not quite,” he told her. She looked disappointed, and he couldn't hold back a smile at that. “It was an accident of sorts.”

“An accident,” Yuuko repeated slowly. “How do you learn about crossing dimensions by accident?”

“Well,” he began, somewhat embarrassed, “when I was still at Hogwarts, I was... rather fond of the library's Restricted Section, I'm afraid.”

“Don't tell me you found out how to do this in a book, because –”

“That's not what I said,” Clow interrupted her, before she got angry about nothing. “Of course it would be impossible, you're right about that. But it did involve the Restricted Section. Do you have any idea of how large that place is?”

Yuuko's face was a pleasure to watch as understanding, disbelief and finally frustration appeared in her expression.

“Why can't I have a single serious conversation with you?” she sighed. “You're making that up. Only experienced librarians know how to use L-space.”

“I did mention it was an accident,” he said sheepishly. For a few moments, Yuuko remained silent.

“I hate you,” she said at last.

“Incidentally,” he continued, too caught up in reminiscences to be upset about her momentary feelings for him, “that was also how I learned to read Fëanorian runes...”

Yuuko finished her sake in one gulp.
