Imaginary Friends [Card Captor Sakura; English]

Title: Imaginary Friends
Rating: G
Genre: Genfic
Characters: Nadeshiko, Sonomi
Summary: Little Nadeshiko talks with a friend.
Notes: Written for Tsukimine Shrine's "Age" challenge.

Nadeshiko woke up suddenly to find herself under a tree. The last thing she remembered was sitting there with a book, but that had been early in the afternoon, and now it was almost dark... She stood up quickly; her parents wouldn't let her hear the end of it if she missed dinner again.

Hurried as she was, she somehow managed to trip on the book that lay forgotten beside her. She was standing up again with a sigh when she heard a friendly voice nearby.

"Are you alright?"

"Yes, don't worry," Nadeshiko answered, smiling. It wasn't the first time that she met the girl who stood in front of her; she looked around her own age, but wore old-fashioned clothes. "It's nice to see you, but I can't stay to talk today. I'm probably late for dinner already."

"Oh," the other girl said simply, with a disappointed look.

Nadeshiko wished she hadn't said that. She couldn't bear to see her friend saddened. There were many things that she didn't understand about her, but she was sure of one thing: there was a reason why nobody else could see her. She had to feel very lonely like that, and Nadeshiko felt it was her duty to help her in some way, even if all she could do was talk to her from time to time.

"I'll stay here for the whole summer. Tomorrow I'll come and talk to you, I promise," she assured her. "But my parents will be worried if I miss dinner."

The other girl tilted her head.

"Will they get angry at you?" she asked. Nadeshiko blushed a little, and then she laughed.

"Yeah, probably," she admitted.

"Oh, then don't stay here for me!" her friend told her. "We'll talk tomorrow, right?"

"Of course," Nadeshiko promised.

Suddenly she heard someone else calling her from afar.

"Where have you been?" Sonomi panted, running towards her. "We've been looking for you everywhere! And who were you talking to, anyway?"

"A friend," she answered cheerfully. Sonomi stared.

"You're a little old to have imaginary friends, Nadeshiko," she said.

"I don't have imaginary friends," Nadeshiko replied, walking towards the house with Sonomi. She turned around once more, though, and smiled to the lonely ghost girl as she left.
