She wouldn't have wanted him to be sad when she died. So he wasn't.
All he did was open a bottle of his best wine and toast to her success. Well, not to her immediate success; he didn't quite agree with that, although he understood where she was coming from. But there was a much larger plan that needed to go well, for everybody's sake. Then again, both of them already knew how things would end. The toast was a mere formality.
“Someday,” he told his surprised Guardians, just before drinking, “people will talk about going out with a bang.”
