More Fringe!

Spoilers for the entire second season, plus the first episode of season three.

I have so much love for this show, guys, you have no idea. ♥ It's clever, it's entertaining to watch, it's fun at times and heartwrenching in others. And yet it doesn't go overboard in angst - even if it very well could be.

I think a big part of why I enjoy it so much is that I love characters who, in spite of having lots of things happening to them, try to make the best of the situation. It doesn't mean they're naive and cheerful, or even optimistic; just that they try their best not to give in. So of course I love and adore Olivia. That lady is BADASS. And because we do get to see her sad and scared and worried, the moments when she gets stronger and simply faces things are even more powerful. Amazing, amazing character.

And now she's stuck in a different universe and doesn't know who she is. /o\ THIS SHOW.

I already liked Peter but seeing him try to deal with being from a different world (and how he got to this one!) made him even more interesting. He... actually took it better than I thought, heh. I'm glad to see him deciding to give Walter a chance again.

And Walter, oh, Walter. MY HEART. His helpless moments are heartbreaking, and so is the flashback episode, but you know what? The episode that made me feel for him the most was actually Brown Betty. He's telling his own made-up story, he could do anything, and... he casts himself as the villain. He doesn't think he deserves even a chance at redemption, much less a happy ending. MY HEART, PEOPLE. This is a guy who struggles so, so, so much to be a better person. Someone who asked Bell to remove part of his brain because he was afraid that he'd be so far gone that his own willpower wouldn't be enough to remain good.

... the scary part is that, after seeing Walternate? Yeeeeah. Maybe he was right.

I don't trust William Bell, by the way. I'm sure there are still many awful things he did that we don't know about. And yet, when he offered to sacrifice himself? Man, I am so easy. |D

Plenty of love for Astrid, too. The things she puts up with! She's such a good person and she genuinely cares about Walter even with all the trouble he gives her. And she's funny, too. I love her sense of humour.

Of course everyone else is great too. Broyles continues to be awesome, I still have no idea of what to think about Nina Sharp, it was great to see alt!Charlie. POOR CHARLIE ;_;

But most of all I love that this show chose to take risks with its storytelling. It could easily have been a "monster of the week" formula, and instead we get a fascinating overarching plot. I can't wait to see what comes next.
