So we were having dinner and watching the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie, which my mum had never seen before, and this happened:

Mum: This looks like an adaptation of something older.
Me: Yeah, the original is from the seventies.
Mum: It's very Doctor Who-ish, isn't it?
Me: ... yes, yes it is |D

It might not sound too epic, but since it was deduced on seven episodes of Moffat!Who and about ten minutes of movie, count me as Impressed XDDD

→ I finally watched Kung Fu Panda 2 the other day, and I liked it just as much as the first one, which is a lot. ♥ What I liked best, without going into spoilers, is that it builds on existing character development instead of making everyone forget what they learned to rehash the previous movie (which happens all too often). This is how you make a good sequel! =D

→ Speaking of watching things late, I really should catch up with season 4 of Merlin. And everything after season 1 of Generator Rex.

→ I miss Thundercats and there's still no news about when we'll get new episodes. =(

laurus_nobilis: (Prime has a bad day)
I went to see it with [ profile] drachenaugen today. Short version: it was stupid but fun, I enjoyed it more than the second one because it had less of that awful "humour" and also LEONARD NIMOY.

Long, spoilery version )

So, X-Men: First Class. It was fun! I liked it more than the other X-Men movies, but I don't know if it's better or if it's just my WISE OLD MENTOR BACKSTORY thing again.

That said, I feel it's my duty to make an oh so tiny clarification:

I am SO EXCITED about this, people, you have no idea. *_______*

I can't even say "it's just like when Fellowship was coming out!" because, back then? I was really excited but at the same time really scared. What if they ruined it???

But now, oh. I know these people. I trust these people.

This week: Who are your five favourite female characters of colour?

I'm really, really bad at picking favourites, so I'll just leave it at "five awesome female characters of colour, in no particular order" instead. And even so it was hard to pick. I mean, I could mention more than five from A:tLA alone. :P But I tried to go for different fandoms.

Soooo it's been a while since I had one of those silly dreams with random fictional characters. Apparently my brain decided to compensate for all that lost time last night. o.O

I don't remember details (which is a pity, because I'm pretty sure the dream had a plot and everything), but the gist of the issue? The G1 versions of Starscream, Soundwave and Shockwave tried to take over Sumdac Tower. Sari was around, but not the Autobots - but that's okay! Because Megamind and Roxanne saved the day!

... yeeeeah I don't even know. The only other thing I remember is that it involved SCIENCE!!1! and weird inventions on all sides, so at least they were IC, I guess. |D

Oh well. Crossovers aside, it's still less ridiculous than some canon G1 plots, anyway. :P (Hey guys, let's TAKE OVER NEW YORK and make some BATTLE TAXIS and rebuild Prime into a SEWER ALLIGATOR!)

So. Yeah. I don't know if my subconscious is trying to tell me "STOP WITH THE CROSSOVERS ALREADY" or "WRITE MOAR". >.>

I'm working on the drabbles/ficlets, but in the meantime, another meme from [ profile] the_great_elk:

Reply with "MAGICAL GATEWAY TO NARNIA" and I'll give you four fandoms. You then have to make an entry writing about your favorite character from each fandom, and why.

the that's my favorite! meme

I watched Inception last night, and really liked it. I think the media (at least here) exaggerated about how ~incredibly brainbreaking~ it is, but I do think it was very clever. And everyone acts so well, too.

As for the meme:

Day 28: Character you’d want personified into a dog

sorry for momentarily killing your layouts D= )
laurus_nobilis: (Be happy!)
Day 15: Character you’d want to cook for you

There were tons of options here )
laurus_nobilis: (Hugimus Prime <3)
Day 12: Character with your favorite voice/seiyuu

Another obvious one )
laurus_nobilis: (Child of the '80s)
... well. I guess I should make an obligatory World Cup mention. It was nice while it lasted. ON A HAPPIER NOTE:

Today is the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future!

I don't talk about it too much, true, because I'm not fannish about it, but those movies were a huge part of my childhood. I saw the third one in the cinema.

When it came out.

And so, to celebrate, have some POWER OF LOVE!

I've just watched Toy Story 3.

I'm not going to be very coherent about it, but 1) I loved it with all my heart and 2) I cried like a baby. Oh, Pixar, you always know how to bring the happy tears.

... if I were in Buenos Aires now I'd be giving my plush dragon a gigantic hug. Just sayin'.

Vague spoilers for Who )

Now, for something I absolutely loved: I saw How To Train Your Dragon yesterday. ♥ I wanted to make a long, gushing post because it deserves one, but... I don't think I can be coherent enough. Wonderful, wonderful movie. And not just because I'm biased towards anything with dragons in it. :P

Seriously, I loved the whole thing to bits. ♥♥♥

I finally saw Sherlock Holmes yesterday! And I had a crazy amount of fun. I have to admit that I'm by no means an expert and much less a purist, but I do like the books, I was sort of expecting to see Sherlock Bond from the trailer... and nope, it was Holmes all right. Silly and over the top, yes, but in a very enjoyable way. Something else I have to admit: I never really did like Holmes as a character. I loved the stories, loved Watson, couldn't stand him. (Surprising, I know, because "I'm a genius with an ego the size of a small planet" is one of my favourite character types. Who knows what makes the difference there.) But yesterday, in the movie? I DIDN'T WANT TO PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE! Not even once! I actually liked him, huh. And since they didn't change his personality, I'll have to blame this entirely on RDJ's charisma, I guess.

Also, a meme! Leave a comment saying, "READ HARD" and I will give you five things I associate with you. Then post about what they mean to you, along with this, at your journal. The words I got from [ profile] telrunya:

wizards, Transformers, gen, Ouran, science )

Short version: I LOVED IT. ♥ Yes it was silly, yes it has flaws, I could definitely live without some of the, uh, 'humour', but it was exactly what I expected. So there. :P

Long version, with spoilers and capslocks but without much coherency: under the cut )
laurus_nobilis: (Striped socks)
My love for Galaxy Quest knows no bounds. Seriously. ♥ It's one of those movies I just have to stay and watch whenever I find it. Especially when I haven't seen it in ages. Like right now. :P

It's just so. SPOT ON. It makes fun of the show and it makes fun of the fandom, but it does it with a lot of love, really. And still... it manages to laugh at everything. And it has the best lines ever. XD "Because my character isn't important enough for a last name, because I'm gonna die five minutes in!" "I see you've managed to get your shirt off." "THIS EPISODE WAS BADLY WRITTEN!"

Not to mention it gave me reason #241357 to love George Takei, who called it "a chillingly realistic documentary". XD

Oh, and because it seems everything leads to giant robots lately: so this is why Blitzwing's "never give up, never surrender" was so familiar! XDDDD I'm a bad fan. How could I forget the TAGLINE.

Also, the dorky references in TFA win at everything. But we knew that already.

Star Trek!
